Ashley Orkus named MAC Hermann Trophy semi-finalist

KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Ole Miss’s Ashely Orkus has been named one of 15 semi-finalists for the 2021 MAC Hermann Trophy, announced Tuesday by United Soccer Coaches and the Missouri Athletic Club.

The senior goalie becomes Ole Miss’s second semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy, NCAA Division I football’s most coveted individual honor, awarded annually since 1967. Orkus is the only goalie among the 15 semi-finalists and the first rebel to make the cup since Rafaelle Souza in 2013.

This honor comes just a day after Orkus was named United Soccer Coaches First Team All-Southeast Region. The Vestavia Hills, Ala. Native is the two-time reigning SEC Goalkeeper of the Year, also winning All-SEC First Team honors each of the past two seasons.

Orkus started all 21 games between the posts for the Rebs, taking 11 wins with six clean sheets. Orkus has a 1.34 goals-against average, posting a 0.724 save percentage with 76 saves. The senior also showed up to shoot most of the free kicks near the midfield, delivering the fourth assist of her career.

With a full season of eligibility remaining, Orkus is already littered throughout the Rebel record books. The senior ranks third all-time with 251 saves in an Ole Miss kit, also tied for third with 32 career wins in front of goals. Orkus 19 career clean sheets is ranked fourth by goalie Ole Miss.

Three finalists will be nominated for the award on Wednesday, December 8, in conjunction with the Women’s College Cup in Santa Clara, California. The 2021 MAC Hermann Trophy Banquet will be held at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on January 7, 2022 to officially announce this year’s winners.
