Brighton is aware of interest in Yves Bisouma but will demand £ 50million to sell him this month – The Athletic

Brighton and Hove Albion are in a delicate position with Yves Bissouma during the January transfer window.

They have the advantage of not needing to sell. There is no desire to lose the influential defensive midfielder halfway through a promising campaign under the leadership of head coach Graham Potter.

The crunch will come if one of Bissouma’s multiple admirers comes up with what Brighton deems to be a suitable offer, which is said to be around £ 50million.

An offer of this magnitude would require serious consideration from owner-chairman Tony Bloom, mainly because Bissouma only has 18 months left on his contract.

The situation is different from Ben White, the center-back sold to Arsenal in last summer’s transfer window for £ 50million.

White was still three years on his contract, having signed a new four-year contract in 2020 after returning from a successful season on loan at Leeds in which he helped them win the league title.

There is no indication at this stage that Bissouma will sign a new contract with Brighton, which is understandable from his point of view.

He can wait to see if any interesting offers are made that he likes. Brighton, meanwhile, runs the risk of paying hefty fees if a deadlock continues and he enters the final year of his contract with his future unresolved.

This scenario also presents a risk to the player. Serious injury can happen at any time.
