Six HUGE boxing bouts announced by Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom with an action party including return to Alexandra Palace

UK boxing makes a strong comeback in the spring after Eddie Hearn revealed a stacked start to 2022 with two Englishmen in major world title fights in the span of two months.

Leeds hero Josh Warrington has a chance to redeem himself and win his former IBF featherweight world title when he faces old foe Kiko Martinez on March 26 in his hometown.

And it comes a month after Hackney’s WBO light heavyweight champion Lawrence Okolie defended his crown in London on February 27.

Nottingham ace Leigh Wood and Irishman Michael Conlan will try to clean up the WBA’s confused featherweight division on March 12.

The Mexican Leo Santa Cruz is the real super champion but has not defended this title since 2018.

But Wood won the regular version of the title with a sensational victory over Can Xu last year and Conlan holds an interim title from the sanctioning body.

Hopefully the winner of the City Ground clash will be elevated to super-champion status or face Santa Cruz.

Portsmouth’s Tricky left-hander Michael McKinson bravely travels to America to take on violent knockout artist Vergil Ortiz at a Golden Boy performance outside on March 19.

The Southpaw will need a life-changing performance and fair judgment to pull the upheaval on foreign soil.

John Ryder of Islington – who cruelly had a world super middleweight title stolen from Callum Smith in 2019 – finally gets another big fight when he lures Danny Jacobs to the Ally Pally on February 12.

And Liverpool’s Liam Smith kicks off on February 5 with a trip to America to face Jessie Vargas.

Matchroom boss Hearn said: “We ended 2021 on a high note and I can’t wait to start in 2022.

“It’s going to be such an exciting year for Matchroom and DAZN with massive events all over the world.

“And I’m thrilled with the early schedule we’ve put in place, the unifications, the world title action and the career-defining nights.

“There is so much drama in these nights, and we have a lot more to add soon.”

Hearn is also set to agree on a fight between his Mexican WBC flyweight world champion Julio Cesar Martinez and IBF master of Croydon, Sunny Edwards.

The Essex fight mogul will also help organize Anthony Joshua’s rematch with Oleksandr Usyk.

And he will file a scholarship offer with the WBC on January 11 in an attempt to have Tyson Fury against Dillian Whyte on his streaming platform.

British fight fans will also soon have announced the shows of Frank Warren and BT Sports.

And Sky Sports are hoping their brilliant February schedule of Chris Eubank Jr v Liam Williams (February 5), Amir Khan v Kell Brook (February 19) and Josh Taylor v Jack Catterall (February 26) are not too disrupted by Covid or the restrictions.
