DeKALB, Illinois – The NIU Convocation Center is the place to be this Saturday, with a doubles NIU women’s and men’s basketball program and wrestling duel. Track and field is back in action this weekend at Grand Valley State with gymnastics against Kent State and Illinois.

A trip to Kent State on Tuesday followed by the conference home opener against Eastern Michigan on Saturday are the next steps for the NIU men’s basketball team. The Huskies returned to action last Saturday in Toledo as Edouard Manuel scored 11 points, his career best record, but the Huskies fell on the road against the Rockets. Saturday’s game against Eastern Michigan will be the second half of a doubles program, with the NIU women’s basketball team hosting Toledo. Full previews of both games will be available on

After an exciting 71-68 victory in Ohio last Saturday, the NIU women’s basketball team is on the road Wednesday night to face the West Michigan Broncos. Redshirt-Senior guard Janae Fish led four Huskies in the double-digit standings with a record 20 points in the win over the Bobcats. NIU split its streak of seasons against Western Michigan last year, winning 73-56 at the Convocation Center. The Huskies open Saturday’s doubles program at the Convocation Center against Toledo at 1 p.m. Full previews of both matches will be available on

Athletics Women

Saturday January 15: GVSU Bob Eubanks Open at Grand Valley State, 12 p.m.

The Huskie Track and Field Team will first compete in 2022 on Saturday when they travel to Allendale, Michigan for the GVSU Bob Eubanks Open. NIU opened its indoor season with a meeting in December as Taylor ramsey won the high jump, Jazmyn smith won the long jump and Kennedy crawford won the 600 meters at the Jimmy Grant Invitational in Iowa. Saturday’s competition is scheduled to start at 12:00 PM CT with field trials, with action on the track scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM CT.


Saturday, Jan. 15: Ohio, 7 p.m. Live video

NIU Wrestling is in action Saturday night at Victor E. Court to face Ohio in a Mid-American Conference duel. The Huskies were the last in action at the Illinois Matmen Open held at the NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates from December 29-30. Red Shirt-Senior Mason kauffman won MAC Co-Wrestler of the Week honors after taking second place at the event in the 174-pound weight class. Izzak Olejnik battled wrestlers to take fourth place at 165 with Lucien Brink and British Wilson both also finished in the top eight. NIU is 1-1 in MAC duels so far this season, with a 20-12 win over Kent State in the Huskie Duals on December 18.


Sunday, January 16: at the Kent State Tri-Meet (vs. Kent State and Illinois), 1 p.m.

NIU continues its season opener road trip and faces its first MAC opponent of 2022 when the Huskies travel to Kent, Ohio for the Kent State Tri-Meet against host Golden Flashes and Foe State of Illinois. The Huskies come off a strong performance in opening week in Florida, where NIU finished second in the Florida Quad Meet with a team score of 194.550, the highest season opener since 2017. Tara Kofmehl finished in the top four in three events – vault, floor exercise and all-around, behind only the No. 2 Florida gymnasts. Nathalie Hamp also scored a third place on bars. NIU’s lineup included six gymnasts making their debut in college gymnastics.
